Statewide Testing: Elementary School
Under the ‘No Child Left Behind’ Act, every state in the U.S. is required to administer a standardized exam to students from 3rd to 8th grades and once again in high school. The writing sections vary from state to state. Some have a writing section at each grade level, while other states only have a writing section for some grades. The essay formats and topics may be different for each state, but our ProWriters have general experience with statewide exams and can tailor their service to help you. The types of writing required on the tests include persuasive writing, creative writing and informative writing.
Ten weeks of practice is recommended, so that you can get the comprehensive experience you need.
Writing sections on the test at the elementary level usually consist of a poem or picture prompt to which the students must respond. Students are given 25 minutes to construct a narrative or story based on the prompt, It is important to be creative, stick to a central idea and support everything with examples.
It takes practice to write clear, organized narratives and to learn everything that judges look for, such as openings and closings, a variety of words and sentence structure, and a clear sequence of events.
Students can get that practice with a ProWriter and increase scores dramatically as students they grow more accustomed to the type of writing that judges look for.
